Not Your Average Station Wagon: 1971 Chevelle Restomod

What is that comes to mind when you think about station wagons? Do you picture Moms ferrying their kids around to hockey games? A trunk filled with enough shopping to survive the apocalypse? Two things I’m pretty sure don’t come to mind are style and performance. This 1971 Chevelle Restomod may just prove we were too hasty. Currently being sold on Streetside Classics and located in Atlanta, the Chevelle somehow manages to make its substantial form factor look sleek and somewhat refined. The roof rack has been removed, and the flush fit of the tailgate and doors add to its sublime aerodynamic look. The car’s been finished in Le Mans Blue, and there’s a pair of black racing stripes that flow over a slight bulge in the hood, beneath which you’ll find a new 350 GM crate engine.

In addition to the car’s spotless exterior, the interior has also seen a substantial refit. The Chevelle still features bench seats up front and at the rear, finished in black vinyl. The steering wheel’s a three-spoke model from an SS, new auxillary dials have been added, and there’s also Vintage Air A/C.

The engine has had some chrome work done, and a four-barrel Holley carb has been fitted. There’s also an HEI igntion system, and a new twin exhaust. About the only thing I’m not a fan of on this Chevelle is that it’s been debadged. I get why: it adds to the car’s slicker look and all, but sometimes you need to let people know what you’re driving, and a big bold Chevy badge does that. Then again, that V8 engine will probably do plenty of talking.
