Closer Look: 1967 Chevy Chevelle 427 CI, 4-Speed

The Chevelle was Chevrolet’s go-to car for Americans from 1964 all the way through 1977. The Chevelle hit retail floors with all kinds of options and body styles including sedans, coupes, convertibles and wagons. The SS versions first hit the streets from 1973 through 1976. The crowd favorite the El Camino was reintroduced by GM as part of the new Chevelle lineup and the nameplate Chevelle grew as a favorite of grandmas and street racers alike.

The Chevelle was GM’s answer to the Ford Fairlane and in particular, the Plymouth Belvedere. Car buffs loved the options that Chevy provided with the Chevelles two-door hardtop coupe option as well as convertibles, four-door sedans, and four-door wagons.

Six-cylinder and V8 power was offered across the board but it was the 1967 model that got a styling tune up that provided a longer and direct appearance. The large wraparound tail lights were hit with customers but the look and change was modest at best. All models came with front disc brakes, new dual master cylinder brake system, 14″ wheels and a three speed automatic transmission
