Top 20 Most Underrated And Forgotten Classic Cars

The car market can be a cutthroat and backbiting one at times. What was once flavor of the month gets discarded like it was nothing, thrown into the wilderness and forgotten. I know that people like you are far more likely than most to remember the lesser-known classics of yesteryear, but even then there are some that inevitably slip under the radar. For this list, I’ve pulled together some of the best classic cars that are so often forgotten about, and that no one really mentions. These are cars that were released just at the wrong time, whose design wasn’t appreciated, or which have been overshadowed by another model. That’s not cool. Take a look at these cars, and rediscover them.

Pontiac 2+2

Years produced: 1964-1967

The humble Pontiac 2+2 began its short life as a trim option on the Pontiac Catalina and was marketed as being the bigger, badder version of the legendary Pontiac GTO. With a name borrowed from European motoring terminology and seating four, it was a huge chunk of metal to park in your driveway. Once you got going though? Its performance flowed like water. Packing a 428 ci V8, the 2+2 produced an impressive 375 horsepower, but unfortunately misjudged what the consumer of the day was after.

Big cars like the 2+2 were going out of style, with 96000 GTOs getting sold in 1966 versus just 6383 of its bigger brothers. In 1967, things didn’t improve, particularly with Pontiac’s Tri-Power carb system getting killed by GM. A pitifully small amount of 2+2s were built that year, just 1768, sounding the death knell of the 2+2, particularly in the face of the Firebird. It is, however, still an amazing looking car, a powerful beast, and well worth your time.
