Okay, I know I said this was going to be an article about classic CARS, but the Syclone definitely deserves a mention here. It’s a ludicrous machine. Despite its ungainly design and a weight of over 3500 lbs, it could hit 60 mph in a frankly ridiculous 4.3 seconds, thanks to a 262 ci V8 that produced 280 horsepower. It could outperform a Ferrari. It was by far the fastest stock pickup in the world. It featured hitherto unseen truck tech, including four-wheel ABS. Of nearly 3000 produced, there are only around 30 that remain, so what happened?

The low production run and a lack of buyers (with the joyful motoring madness not being enough to lure customers away from other marques,) means it went tragically underappreciated. Sure, it wasn’t great as a truck, with a load capacity of just a few hundred pounds, and sure it looks, shall we say, not so sporty, in comparison to its rivals, but it was wonderful in its own way. It represented something bizzarre, a muscle truck, and a huge scream of unabashed American attitude.
