Top 20 Most Underrated And Forgotten Classic Cars
Jensen Interceptor
Years produced: 1966-1976

Ah, here we go, one of my favorite oddball cars in history. The Jensen Interceptor was very much a British attempt to make a muscle car, integrating European style and American power. The car’s stunning design (complete with ostentatiously large rear windshield,) was Italian, created by the company Carrozzeria Touring, but under the hood, it was all-American. A selection of Chrysler engines were used in the cars, from the 383 ci Golden Commando all the way up to the monstrous 440 ci TNT V8, as featured in the Plymouth Fury and the Dodge Charger. The short-lived convertible version could hit 60 mph in fewer than eight seconds, and reach a top speed of 130 mph, despite weighing more than two tons.

With all this going into it, the car was a success. Not a huge one, but Jensen were never a huge company, they were very much the AMC to British Leyland’s GM. While Jensen went bust in 1976, they left a fast and beautiful legacy in their wake, and one that should be remembered more vividly.
