Fiat 124 Sport Spider

Years produced: 1966-1982

The Fiat 124 Spider was nothing if not fun. A stylish European roadster that had no pretensions about competing with the latest American muscle cars, it emphasized the joy of driving, providing fun where there was no V8 roar. Powered by a 122 ci engine, at the largest, the Fiat 124 Spiders may have suffered from problems with their mechanical components (as was de rigeur for Fiats of the time,) but it’s hard to look at this thing and not fall in love with it.

As well as looking spectacular, the Fiat 124 also had a twin-cam setup. They weren’t exactly rare (though certainly still not common) in the US at one point, with 150000 of them being imported into the country. They may suffer from reliability issues, as well as rusting more quickly than the nails on an outhouse, but they’re cheap, fun, and an Italian convertible. If you ever want an uncommon vehicle to jet about in under the summer sun, do consider the humble Fiat.
