Buick Reatta

While a lot of late-1980s designs haven’t held up as well as ones from earlier decades, the short life of the Buick Reatta is a strange footnote in car history. The Reatta, a low-production GT, was massively advanced for its time, packing oodles of technology. It had a touchscreen console in the late 1980s, as well as a trip computer, CD player, and ABS. The car was powered by a V6, with a displacement of 232 ci.

Weird non-word name aside (do you think they dropped a G somewhere?) the car got negative press for not being the sportiest motor around, which missed its point entirely. It wasn’t meant to be. It was a GT, designed around getting people to and from places in comfort and style, a task it could handle ably. It was still pretty fast and fun to drive while featuring tech that wouldn’t become standard for decades. Only 21,000 were built over its lifetime, making them pretty rare. However, they are also largely forgotten and have a strong niche fanbase, so support shouldn’t be too hard to come by.
